Dr. Ajeet kumar

Dr. Ajeet Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. His research interests encompass Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), Cellular Lattice Structures, Biomimetic Design, Generative Design, Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM), and Design Automation for advanced manufacturing.
He received his Ph.D. in the field of Additive Manufacturing. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati, he served as an Assistant Professor at the High-Speed 3D Printing Research Center, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech), Taiwan. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience in both academia and industry through research, teaching, and collaborative innovation.
Dr. Kumar's research focuses on the design and additive manufacturing of next-generation products for distributed manufacturing, with particular emphasis on mass customisation, product personalisation, lightweight cellular structures, and intelligent design methodologies. His work integrates computational design with advanced manufacturing technologies to develop high-performance products for engineering and biomedical applications.

Abstract : 

This talk explores why conventional design approaches are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of modern reqirement. It highlights the paradigm shift toward free-form, multifunctional, and lightweight product designs enabled by digital technologies and driven by increasingly shorter product life cycles. The session will discuss how Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) along with lattice structure , generative design and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are transforming the product development process by enabling rapid design exploration. Through selected industrial case studies from around the world, the talk will demonstrate how AM are accelerating innovation, enhancing product performance, and reshaping the future.
